Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Vision and Mission?
Vision
To see youth sports transformed into a fulfilling and desired journey for athletes and families.
Mission
To develop athletes who understand the importance of respect, benefits of teamwork, and value of hard work.
What makes Valiant different from other lacrosse clubs?
Everything Valiant does centers around character and player development. Players will develop as people, teammates, leaders, and players. Our approach is based on the following:
Training three-dimensional athletes. We will develop, harness, and promote the skills needed to play lacrosse; the mind needed to deal with ourselves, others, and situations; and the heart to understand our identity and value is greater than any sport.
Developing triple impact competitors. We will teach what the individual needs to make oneself better; how the team is made better through unselfishness, leadership, and encouragement; and that the game is to be respected.
Mentoring the next generation of leaders. We will establish a mindset and environment of leadership, knowing that sport is just a medium to develop the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the game of life and contribute as stronger citizens in our community.
What kind of players are we looking for?
Valiant is looking for players and families that value hard work, leadership, teamwork, and love of the game – all of which matter more than the number of years played or current lacrosse skills.
Valiant Lacrosse Club started in 2024 with a vision to see youth sports transformed into a fulfilling and desired journey for families and athletes. We believe that athletic development extends beyond skills and competition—it’s about building character, fostering leadership, and instilling values that last a lifetime.
Are there tryouts?
No. Any player and family that want to benefit from our mission and values is encouraged to join. Experience and current skill level are not a determination of who can join. First come, first served. If you are hesitant and you would like to “try-on” by joining a practice, please feel free to contact us directly.
Registration is open year round. There are roster limits for tournament teams, so make sure you register to lock down your spot on the team. You also may register on the Waitlist to get the uniform package, access to all practices, and opportunity to backfill spots for individual tournaments. Should the waitlist grow enough at your level to field another team, you will be automatically placed on a team for tournaments.
Talent will be spread across teams for tournaments.
What grade levels are included?
10U: Equates to ~3rd and 4th Grade
12U: Equates to ~5th and 6th Grade
*Be sure to check the birth date range requirements. Those ranges, and the shift to age-based program aligns with recent changes with USA Lacrosse.
What is the commitment level?
Majority of practices will be located at DiCaprio Park in Guilderland. Tournament locations can be found here.
Recommended Prioritization
- In Season Sport
- Local Club Team or Other Clubs
- Valiant
We will do our best to deconflict the tournaments with other known clubs. We do ask that you make your best effort to attend the tournaments.
The best outcomes come from full commitment to practices and tournaments, but we are realistic to the competing priorities of the world today. Players WILL NOT BE PUNISHED for missing practices or tournaments, PERIOD!
We also advocate for the generally recognized advice that young athletes should have no more hours/week of organized sport than age in years. This is the best way to avoid burnout and overuse injuries. We want long-term participation in sport.
